Photographer’s Note.
2025 marks exactly ten years since I arrived in Berlin. To commemorate this milestone, I have created my first photo book, compiling works from the past five years.
Tickets from the last five years. A collection of personal moments when, leaving my base in Berlin, I encountered unexpected experiences that struck me with strong visual interest. More than simple snapshots, these are moments when I pressed the shutter compelled by a sense of necessity at the time.
To make this book, I took countless flights, and selecting the title and curating the images involved extensive reflection and care. However, You may also enjoy this book with a slightly loose or relaxed gaze.
2025년은 베를린에 온 지 만으로 10년이 되는 해입니다. 올해를 기념하기 위해, 지난 5년간의 작업물을 엮은 첫번째 사진책을 만들었습니다.
지난 5년간의 티켓들. 베이스인 베를린을 떠나 만난 예상치 못한 순간들 중, 시각적으로 강하게 흥미를 느낀 개인적인 시간들의 모음입니다. 단순한 순간 포착을 넘어, 그때 셔터를 눌러야만 했던 마음을 되새겨봅니다.
책을 만들기 위해 수많은 비행을 했고, 제목과 셀렉션을 정하는 데에도 많은 고민을 기울였습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 조금은 느슨한 시선으로 이 책을 바라보시길 권합니다.
About the title.
“Tickets take you somewhere, without that somewhere necessarily being a holiday. Where you go and why remains open. It isn’t too cute, nor is it too programmatic.
The word also has a pleasing rhythm — something percussive in its T-, K-, and S-sounds.
The name could refer both to the tickets that took you somewhere to photograph, and to the photos as tickets themselves, a window to a place to be looked at. The directionality inherent in both photography (you’re allowed to see this, but not what surrounds it) and tickets (they grant access to one specific thing or event) makes the word resonate as a title for a photo book.”
Unlike the photos I’m commissioned to take, these are the ones I commissioned myself to make — and this investment in my own ‘vision,’ if you will, feels essential to me, a part of my photography worth preserving within the pages of a book.
‘‘티켓이라는 단어는 우리를 어딘가로 데려가지만, 그 ‘어딘가가 반드시 휴가일 필요는 없습니다. 어디로 향하는지, 그리고 왜 가는지는 열려 있습니다. 이 단어는 과도하게 귀엽지도, 지나치게 의도적이지도 않습니다. 또한 T, K, S로 이어지는 소리는 리듬감 있게 들리며, 다소 타악기적인 인상도 줍니다.
이 이름은 사진을 찍기 위해 저를 어떤 장소로 데려갔던 티켓을 의미할 수도 있고, 반대로 사진 그 자체가 티켓처럼 특정한 장소를 들여다보게 하는 하나의 창이라는 의미로 읽힐 수도 있습니다. 사진은 우리가 오직 그 안에 담긴 장면만을 볼 수 있게 하고, 그 주변은 볼 수 없게 하며, 티켓은 하나의 특정한 장소나 이벤트에만 접근을 허용합니다. 이처럼 사진과 티켓이 공통으로 지니는 방향성 때문에, 이 단어는 사진집의 제목으로서 충분한 울림을 가진다고 생각합니다.’‘
의뢰를 받아 촬영해 온 사진들과 달리, 이 사진들은 제가 스스로에게 의뢰하여 만든 작업입니다. 다시 말해, 이는 제 자신의 ‘시선’에 대한 투자라고 할 수 있습니다. 이 작업은 저에게 매우 중요한 의미를 지니며, 책의 페이지 안에 보존할 가치가 있는 사진 작업의 일부라고 믿고 있습니다.
